Handling Negative Popularity in College

At one point in life, everyone must have struck a wish to be popular. There is nothing wrong with being popular especially when young; it brings quite an amazing confidence boost that is required for development of strong personalities. However, most popular students in college are not known for their good deeds or good reputation. Most of them are known for their shady deals; maybe drug abuse and having too many sexual partners among other vices common in college. Living with such a reputation amongst highly influential peers can be quite stressful. This is a situation that has seen many students find it difficult to fit in college after their misdeeds.

The misfits go through a lot of trauma going to the extremes of falling into depression, mania and others result to termination of their lives at their most productive ages. This is a cause of worry for the government as the trend in college suicide is on the rise today. Dealing with this sensitive issue requires the concerted attention of the administration to establish the root cause of the problem as well as find different ways of handling it before it blows out of proportion. On a personal level, handling negative popularity in college requires a student to seek for counseling services. Talking out problems helps a lot in arresting the situation to reassure the student of a brighter future after correction of their misdoings. The student should also identify others with similar problems and try to help each other out. Some may see this as a common pool of fools oblivious of its merits. It is also the responsibility of peers to ensure that they provide a conducive environment for recovery.
