Strikes and Peaceful Demonstrations

Most college students’ today result to rather more violent ways of finding solutions to their problems rather than using more civilized means. The cause of this easily traceable from previous generations that were the original pioneers of the higher education system. Strikes have become the norm in college with the aftermath being destruction of property and loss of young lives undermining the future and compromising the government’s investments. The trends of strikes tend to be contagious culminating from one college to the next with most students finding this as a source of entertainment and the perfect excuse for truancy.

Drug and substance abuse is a fueling factor in this matter as chronic abusers use this as a means to ease off their steam and release excess energy. Drugs impair the ability of judgment especially in making sound decisions. Therefore chronic abusers find themselves engaging in a face-off with armed policemen thus putting their survival chances on the line. However, the administration should be keen to check on this trend before it reaches an uncontrollable level; which of course is the destruction and closure of most colleges. An easy and effective way of doing this is through counselling which is aimed at teaching the students safer means of taking industrial action as students carry on this behavior to their work stations. Teaching students on peaceful demonstration is a positive way of arresting the situation. In addition, the police should be kept on hold in case of peaceful demonstration so as not to raise any tension.
